Bank card security issues
Bank card users facing security threats
One of the most serious security issues facing bank card users is card reading. This is done with a device placed over the card slot that will read the magnetic stripe of your bank card. A miniature camera is placed over the ATM-machine that will then record the PIN number as it’s typed in.
The simplest way to protect your bank account is covering your PIN number with your hand while typing it. The problem with this is most people simply forget to do this. A more sophisticated security method is using a smart card. This is a bank card with embedded integrated circuits that contains the necessary data. However as long as the card still contains a magnetic stripe, the card can still be read. A bank card without the stripe however would be too impractical as many ATM machines aren’t compatible with circuit operated cards.
