Darkness and lack of sunlight
Winters in Finland are always cold, dark and sunless. This fact affects human brain and causes them to feel tired and depressed. The lack of sunlight also leads to lack of vitamin D and therefore sicknesses.
During the Finnish winter it is common to get depressed and not to get enough vitamin D because of the lack of sunlight. Darkness also causes tiredness and passiveness and the lack of vital vitamins causes weakened immune system and therefore sicknesses. Because of the tiredness caused by darkness people are not motivated to go out and socialise, exercise and benefit from the winter.
We think this is a problem concerning everyone who has to live in the dark northern countries. Especially young people are easy to be exposed to depression and tend to get passive.
