Hoop jams for India's waste management
Idea is targeting primary schools. Basically grabbing kids attentions to be aware of this problem and act more responsible about it. Also create public awareness for primary collection of waste.
Total population of India is 1,173,108,018 (July 2010 est.)and 40% of India's population is below the age of 18 years which at 400 million is the world's largest child population. I believe this is a huge potential to be aware of. And I also do believe that educating them in primary school is critical which would affect them for a lifetime. If we can start a chain reaction from them it can spread to their parents and create public awareness.
Throwing their waste on the street, and right outside their own house is a part of their daily routine. The key to address this problem is to target the youth in order to break the cycle comfort with trashing India. So my idea is basically creating an experience to throwing a piece of trash to trash pail, which would make the hole process much more exiting and fun. So with that interactive process they will always remember not to throw trash to streets. Maybe with that beginning India's social acceptance of littering can be broken.
Idea is really simple, putting a basketball hoop on trash cans. So kids can throw their trashes like a basketball player. With and friendly mascot, kids would love to throw their empty bottles in recyclable bins. Those hoops can be located all around primary schools. Creating a fun way to throwing trashes could keep the streets clean. Also It can become a habit for those kids.
I don't know maybe this is something really small but I do believe that small things can make big differences.
